This is one of those days. One of those days I cry, not because of stress, but because of the tremendous value of life and relationships.
See, I work at Susan G. Komen for the Cure. From my cube in the headquarters of the world's largest breast cancer organization, I often read personal stories of those affected by breast cancer. Whether they are stories of the one diagnosed, or a co-survivor (someone who has walked through a breast cancer journey with a loved one), the stories are touching. People from all over the world send their thoughts to us. Sometimes they send poems or songs, hoping to inspire or encourage others with their expressions of their journey. Sometimes they seem scared. Sometimes they seem to just hope that someone will read about them and sympathize with what they have been through. They figure someone at Komen would care. And they are right. I am often the one reading those stories. Answering their questions. Explaining what we do. Assuring them that we are doing everything we can. And I believe we really are.
A tear is running down my face because I just finished reading a story of a woman who lost her sister to breast cancer. I have sisters.
I'm glad to be touched by these stories. I'm glad I work here. I'm not glad we don't have a cure yet. But I'm glad to know people who are doing everything they can so that we will soon.
