Blessed Givers

“It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Acts 20:35

I gave each of my girls gifts. This was recommended by the camp leadership. I gave them headbands and hair clips. One girl joked about me thinking their hair looked messy and I thought they needed these things. I said no! That never crossed my mind! I had my translator explain that all girls like pretty things and that I was giving them these things so that they would see them and remember me and that I had photos of them on my camera that I would see and remember them. They happily accepted the gifts, and I know they like them because I saw several of them wearing what I had given them over the next few days.

What I did not expect was that they started bringing me gifts. Three of my girls brought me jewelry. Is it because I said all girls like pretty things? The necklaces and earrings they adorned me with are beautiful. I can’t help but think their gifts cost more to them than mine cost me. For a split second, I was tempted to hesitate and not take their pretty things, but I quickly realized what joy I would be stealing from them if I were to reject their gifts. They were such cheerful givers! What a beautiful example of generosity. When I wear the jewelry they gave me, I will definitely remember them and the look on their faces when they handed me what they had. I will always be happy to re-live that moment when they lifted my hair and fastened their necklaces around my neck.

Oh, how I love those girls!

[The two necklaces and earrings I'm wearing in the photo are from my girls, but the girls in the photo are not the ones who gave them to me. They are other girls who just wanted their photo taken. :) ]
