My Girls

I am in charge of a one of three groups of teen girls. I am supposed to have 14-year-olds. But we learned quickly that they lie about their age in order to stay with their friends. I have ages 12 to 17. (At the end of the day, they forgot they were supposed to lie and told me the truth.)

The oldest girl in my group, Liz, really grabbed my heart. About 20 minutes after the groups were decided, she confessed that she was 17. She said she had a conflict with one of the older girls she was supposed to be with and wanted to be in our group. I appreciated her honestly, so I let her stay.

Later, I gave the girls my testimony. I told the girls of a time in my life when I felt really empty. Liz really responded to that particular part and said she felt empty right now. She seemed to really identify when I said life was hard and Christians are not always perfect. Oh how I wish I could really talk to Liz! I have to rely on Pamela to have a heart to heart conversation with her. I am so glad that she is at camp this week.

Another girl is Naquelin. She is 12, and like the rest, loves to hug. Oh how I love being hugged all day! Naquelin is one who got baptized on Sunday. She wears the necklace I brought her every day. She doesn’t know it is from me, and that doesn’t matter. I love seeing it around her neck and knowing it is a reminder for her of the decision she made.

[Photo: Liz is not pictured, but the little girl is her neice. Naquelin is beside me on the right. We are holding picture frames-our craft for the day.]
