Personalized Language Learning

Tutoring rocks. “Class” is really tutoring because it is one on one.

Something I’ve really enjoyed about the style of learning here is that it can be customized—by me! During the day, I keep a notebook of words and phrases that come up that I don’t understand. Or maybe something I want to talk to my family about or something I want to ask them but don’t know how. Then I take my list to my teacher and get her help specifically in those areas that are useful.

I told my teacher that I wanted to get better at speaking in the past tense because that is what is useful at dinner when the senora asks about my day. I am pleased to announce that I am finally getting a grasp of the preterite and imperfect tenses, which never made much sense to me in my previous study of Spanish. My teacher, though she talks solely in Spanish, is able to make me understand better than any of my English speaking teachers ever did! This is a good way to learn.
